However they don’t even know about it! Well, a marriage tax claim can get you a discount on your tax. It can also get you a pay-out of the excess tax you have paid over the last four years. If you’re interested in finding out if you are eligible for this type of claim, there are three criteria you and your partner have to fulfil first. These are:
- You are married or in a civil partnership
- One partner earns under £12,000 and does not pay tax
- One partner earns over £12,500 and pays basic tax
If you hit all of these criteria, we can happily say that you are eligible to make a claim. The best part about these claims is that you can backdate them over the last four years.
